first_imgNewsletter and trade magazine publisher Douglas Publications is suing distributor Baker & Taylor over magazines and directories the publisher says the company distributed on a credit basis but allegedly never paid for.The suit was filed late last year in North Carolina’s Mecklenburg County Superior Court. According to the complaint, Douglas Publications is seeking $53,541.20 in outstanding “goods and services.” The publications in question include Douglas’ Salesman’s Guide directories and Facility Care magazine.“We have attempted over the last several years to obtain payments but were unsuccessful,” Douglas Publications president Alan Douglas wrote in an e-mail to FOLIO:. “Baker & Taylor did not pay us and Castle Harlan Partners [a private equity group with controlling interest in Baker & Taylor] refused to respond. Silence isn’t always golden when vendor disputes drag on for years.” Baker & Taylor did not return a FOLIO: request for comment.In addition to Facility Care, Douglas publishes American Painting Contractor and Workplace HR & Safety magazines. Earlier this year Baker & Taylor—a global distributor of books, magazines, videos and music to libraries and retailers—announced that its chairman and CEO, Richard Willis, resigned in order to spend more time with his family. He was replaced as chairman by Baker & Taylor board member Jack Eugster.last_img
