As part of the “Southland Gives Back” initiative, the Southland Conference will profile a community service outing from each of our 13 member institutions each weekday from Dec. 6 to 22. NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Thanks to the efforts of Stephen F. Austin’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council, over 100 toys were gathered up at no fewer than five SFA games throughout the fall semester which will be distributed to the greater Nacogdoches community as part of the Toys for Tots program. Later in the month of December, SFA’s group of SAAC members will be assisting the Nacogdoches Toys for Tots chapter by sorting and organizing the toys collected throughout the holiday season while dressed up as elves. As has been the case for multiple years past, SFA’s SAAC chapter – which is made up of 19 individuals from all of the ‘Jacks’ athletic teams – hosted a number of toy drives to assist in the collection of toys for the Toys for Tots program. Those four drives occurred in the Lumberjacks’ home football finale against Nicholls (Nov. 11), and men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders on Nov. 16 and Dec. 2 with all individuals who brought new, unwrapped toys receiving free admission to the game. Through the past three years, over 1,700 toys have been collected as part of the efforts of SFA’s SAAC chapter.
