GAOTH DOBHAIR JOBS BOMBSHELL AS CRISP FACTORY AXES STAFF

first_imgUP to 50 people at the Largo Foods crisp factory could lose their jobs as part of cutbacks at the company in west Donegal, donegaldaily.com has learned.Staff have been told in meetings that the jobs will go before Christmas.Management at the company – the same firm behind the recent controversial ‘sexist’ Hunky Dory adverts – are to meet the affected staff in one-on-one meetings over the next few days. Tonight local TDs Pearse Doherty and Thomas Pringle have expressed concern at the prospect of more job losses in Gaoth Dobhair. The crisp factory accounts for a quarter of the jobs on the Udaras na Gaeltachta industrial estate in the parish. The move – the company has yet to make a formal announcement – comes just ten weeks after a high-profile launch of a Tayto-branded tortilla snack. There was a promise of 35 jobs back in June – but we understand the new crisp “isn’t doing well” in the market and the stores are “packed with them.”At that time the company said it had 190 staff. The company has been given huge government grants. One insider told donegaldaily.com: “A lot of the jobs these days are part-time and we were told the jobs will be going before Christmas.”TD Pearse Doherty said: “This looks like bad news for the area and I will be seeking a meeting with the company about this.”GAOTH DOBHAIR JOBS BOMBSHELL AS CRISP FACTORY AXES STAFF was last modified: September 20th, 2011 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Gaoth Dobhairhunky dorysjobs axedlargo foodslast_img read more
